Sitting here eating my second luxury mini stollen of the day (with rum, hic!), I started to think about general self care over the winter months and how winter makes me want to eat bread based foods and hibernate! This is ok in moderation but not on an every day basis - its not great for making one feel tip top! I have decided that self care must prevail! Both with what goes inside my body and what I put on the outside of my bod too. My first frosty but sunny day resolution is to wear sunscreen in these winter months under my moisturiser. Your skin takes a battering, whether it is sunny or not and so I have dug out my go to summer sunscreen and its back on! I'm replacing my serum with sunscreen for the winter months and applying under my usual moisturiser.
Ultrasun is a Swiss suncare brand and I really rate it. It doesn't do that clogged pores thing (no spots thanks), is very light and they do one for my extremely sensitive skin. It has no nasties like perfume, mineral oils, emulsifiers and preservatives. Result! They sell it in M&S too!
My next winter skincare tip is...........DIY facials every day. Just spend a tiny bit more time than you normally would on your skin every day and you will absolutely notice the difference. Cleanse and moisturise every day (and tone if poss), scrub once or twice a week and apply a mask (clay based is always a winner), once a week also. Hot Tip: When you apply your daily moisturiser practice mindfulness! We all know what that is so apply your moisturiser with meaning and use some massaging strokes to stimulate lymphatic fluid (thats the stuff that can make your face look puffy!).
If you can get a monthly facial then do it! Your skin will thank you for it. Your skin renews itself every 28 days so it really does help the process along. I see a lot of people for facials that are used to a facial just being about the product application. Application is key but I always spend at least 15 minutes of my hour facial massaging the facial muscles like I would any other muscle in the body. Eliminating toxins, moving lymph and working any tight and contstricted tissue. It just makes your face look and feel lighter and more toned - always a winner!
And so to the body. Winter + cold weather = hunched up shoulders and bad posture! Try to relax into that freeze if you can. I am now thinking about what the cold does to make my body feel more tense and am trying to think relaxed thoughts. I also go for a regular massage to help the general aches and pains of life and it also helps my general well being. Massage is fab for self care. I see lots of poeple that come in feeling tired heavy and generally a bit 'blurgh'. They leave feeling lighter and looser. Not bad for an hour lying down doing nothing!
So, to conclude; wear sunscreen, give your face some TLC, get a massage, look after your body and........if you do have to reach for the stollen then I can highly recommend Lidl Luxury Stollen Bites with Rum!
